Basim has previously held positions of General Manager and Engineering Manager for EPC companies nationally as well as internationally. He has managed teams as large as 200 people and has held significant Profit and Loss responsibilities in his career.

As he transitions into his new role, Basim will continue to provide interim support to the Process group until a replacement is identified.

CALGARY – A leading Calgary based engineering firm specializing in the energy sector is expanding to Atlantic Canada.

PROJEX is opening its Atlantic Canadian office at the beginning of October 2011 in Halifax.

The firm is looking to immediately fill 15 positions in the Atlantic office. Position descriptions are available online at www.projex.ca, and include electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, piping designers, structural designers, instrumentation and control engineers and document control technicians. The company currently employs 240 people at its Calgary head office. To meet the growing demands in Western Canada, it hopes to have 50-150 full-time positions in place in Halifax by the end of 2012. Depending on business climate and market conditions, PROJEX estimates that it will have an annual payroll of upwards of $10 million by the end of next year.

Halifax native Scott Richards will serve as PROJEX’s President, Atlantic Region. A graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Richards has a 20 year career in business, operations, marketing and communications. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Dean is responsible for the overall direction and guidelines for project management, and supervision and mentoring of all project managers and project engineers. He is responsible for strategic planning, execution planning and execution management processes as they relate to the organization’s project management activities. Dean represents PROJEX in dealing with clients, and ensures project commercial terms and contractual requirements are in place prior to the commencement of work.

Dean has a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Calgary. He brings 24 years of oil and gas project management experience with expertise in standards, procedures, governance and labour negotiations. With core competencies in leadership, operations, and projects, Dean has invaluable perspective on a wide variety of business fundamentals and issues. Prior to joining PROJEX, he held several management and executive positions within Calgary-based engineering and oil and gas construction companies.

Wes is responsible for the management and administration of the Procurement and Contracts Department, which provides EPCM support services including procurement, contracts, expediting, and logistics. He is responsible for the procedures and work processes that align with PROJEX and industry best practices, and provides senior level support in the development of proposals, project execution plans, and budgets. Wes sets goals and objectives to ensure that members of the Procurement and Contracts group are provided with direction, support, career development and training.

Wes has over 30 years of procurement and contract experience in positions as Supply Chain Manager, Manager of Procurement, Project Procurement Manager, Senior Project Buyer, Senior Buyer, Project Material Coordinator and Project Expediter on a variety of projects in the oil and gas industry in an EPCM environment

Michelle is responsible for leading the development and execution of Human Resource strategies that support delivering the PROJEX business plan. This includes leading the Human Resources team that supports organizational design and effectiveness, leadership development, talent acquisition and retention, and driving employee engagement and culture to support organizational growth and development in achieving increase customer focus and revenue.

Michelle received her B.Sc. from the University of Calgary and holds a Certificate in Human Resource Management and Payroll Management. In 2000 Michelle attained her professional designation (CHRP), Certified Human Resources Professional. Michelle has over 12 years in leadership roles and 20 years’ experience in diverse industries. Michelle has made significant contributions in the areas of Strategic HR Management, organizational design and effectiveness, talent acquisition and retention, M&A, and change management in global organizations and start-up business environments. For several years Michelle has been the keynote speaker at national conferences on the topics of Attracting, Developing and Retaining Talent in the Energy Industry. Michelle is actively involved in the community and is a member of the HR Committee at the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, and a director of Discovery House.

As Manager of Engineering, Enrico is responsible for the overall functional leadership and management of the engineering department at PROJEX. His leadership will ensure engineering deliverables are of the highest quality and project engineering execution aligns with the company’s corporate strategic plan.

Enrico has 26 years of experience spanning both international and Canadian borders. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of the Philippines and has a variety of experience managing refinery and oil sands projects. Enrico was most recently the Chief of Instrumentation & Controls engineering at PROJEX and the company is very pleased to see his growth within the organization.

As Manager of Project Controls, Ross is responsible for providing the overall direction within the company for project controls including estimating, planning & scheduling, cost management and reporting project status both to our clients and internally.  He provides oversight and leadership to employees, consultants and contractors in the delivery of project control activities as they relate to overall project delivery.  In addition to providing this oversight, Ross is responsible for setting overall goals and establishing priorities in this area to support achievement of PROJEX’s business plan objectives.  In his role, he will also provide liason with clients on a regular basis to ensure project delivery meets expectations. 

Ross attended Ryerson Polytechnical Institute where he earned his Bachelor of Technology with a major in Project Management.  Ross brings 30 years of career project controls experience in Oil & Gas, Refining, Petrochemical, SAGD, Thermal Power generation and Mining having worked on numerous projects from small retrofit and capital expansions to world scale mega-projects.  Prior to joining PROJEX, he held numerous positions within a Calgary based EPC organization covering the role of Project Controls Manager for a variety of large Alberta projects including Corporate Manager, Project Controls.
