PROJEX Opening Atlantic Canada Office

PROJEX opening Atlantic office in Halifax

Hiring 15 people this fall – goal of 50 to 150 by end of 2012

For Immediate Release
September 13, 2011

CALGARY – A leading Calgary based engineering firm specializing in the energy sector is expanding to Atlantic Canada.

PROJEX is opening its Atlantic Canadian office at the beginning of October 2011 in Halifax.

The firm is looking to immediately fill 15 positions in the Atlantic office. Position descriptions are available online at www.projex.ca, and include electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, piping designers, structural designers, instrumentation and control engineers and document control technicians. The company currently employs 240 people at its Calgary head office. To meet the growing demands in Western Canada, it hopes to have 50-150 full-time positions in place in Halifax by the end of 2012. Depending on business climate and market conditions, PROJEX estimates that it will have an annual payroll of upwards of $10 million by the end of next year.

“PROJEX is choosing Halifax as our Atlantic centre because the city and the province is a great place to live and has a strong educated workforce,” said Barry Brad, President and Chief Executive Officer of PROJEX. “Halifax is a very easy sell for talented engineers and other related professionals. As PROJEX continues to grow to serve our clients in Western Canada’s energy sector, it is important to provide engineers with the opportunity to experience the East Coast lifestyle, and to also play a key role in shaping the engineering and technology that is being used in the energy sector.”

Halifax native Scott Richards will serve as PROJEX’s President, Atlantic Region. A graduate of Saint Mary’s University, Richards has a 20 year career in business, operations, marketing and communications. He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

“Not only am I excited about the opportunity to come home to Halifax, even more importantly, I am excited to be a part of creating good jobs here in Nova Scotia,” said Richards. “PROJEX will provide real meaningful employment for Atlantic Canadians who wish to stay here, instead of moving away, to Atlantic Canadians like me who have moved away, but would like the chance to come home, and to new Atlantic Canadians who would love to work and live here full-time.”

Brad and Richards also noted the warm welcome extended to PROJEX as it considered where to invest in Atlantic Canada.

“PROJEX is just the kind of company that should be in this city, reinforcing Greater Halifax’s position as Atlantic Canada’s hub city and global magnet for the next generation of skilled professionals,” said Paul Kent, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Halifax Partnership.

Engineers Nova Scotia, which regulates the 5,500 engineers who practice in the province, added their voice of support to today’s news.

“Providing new opportunities for engineers in Nova Scotia is great news,” said Len White, Chief Executive Officer and Registrar of Engineers Nova Scotia. “We appreciated PROJEX reaching out to our organization and speaking with us about the profession in advance of their investment in Atlantic Canada. We look forward to working with PROJEX in the years ahead.”

PROJEX’s Atlantic Region Office is located at the Bayers Road Business Centre, 7071 Bayers Road, in Halifax’s growing west end. It will officially open its doors Monday, October 3, 2011.

PROJEX passes COR safety audit for 2010

PROJEX has received final grading for their COR (Certificate Of Recognition) maintenance audit for 2010. Enform (reviewing external auditor team and CAPP certifying partner) notified Glenn Cass (PROJEX – HSE Facilitator and COR Internal Auditor) on January 5, 2011 that their audit report passed review and was graded with an above 90% score with additional complementary comments concerning strengths of the report.

Mr. Cass stated that “the audit went well with strong participation from all areas of the company, and I would like to thank PROJEX management for their support and commitment to making safety an integral part of the company’s programs. By performing the COR audit of the safety program annually and measuring to a prescribed protocol as laid out by Alberta Workers Compensation Board and Alberta Employment and Immigration, a process of continual improvement for the safety program is achieved. By analyzing the annual audit report, actions are generated in consultation with company peers, tracked and improvements made each calendar year.”

“Our HSE program is a key core business element at PROJEX and is imbedded in the culture of the company” Barry Brad, PROJEX President and CEO commented. “By performing the COR audit annually we are committed to evaluating, discussing and improving the HSE program to stay in line with our company safety goal of an incident-free workplace.”
